A night in which dreams came true for some, was also a night of tribute for Kobe Bryant, who, along with his daughter and several others, tragically passed away on Jan 26. The 2020 Grammy Awards began with the usual colorful and extravagant looks on the red carpet, but some were able to throw in a last-minute accolade to the late Brant.
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s Tribute
On her nails, Chopra had 24 painted, the number on Bryant’s jersey during his Lakers days, and wore a Ralph & Russo gown with a plunging neckline, reminiscent of Jennifer Lopez’s Versace gown that went viral in 2000. Jonas wore an Ermenegildo Zegna XXX suit and featured a purple ribbon on the lapel.
Cardi B
Although she did not walk down the red carpet, Cardi B still turned heads in her sheer Mugler gown and an alleged five-million dollars in diamonds. In contrast to her show-stopping look, her husband, Offset, kept it simple in leather by Chrome Hearts.
Ariana Grande
Grande’s red carpet look was undoubtedly a fan favorite on social media. The “7 Rings” singer wore a Giambattista Valli and matching velvet opera gloves when she arrived on the red carpet, and although she changed into two other gowns throughout the night, this was definitely the favorite of the three.
Colorful Menswear
Menswear was vibrant with Lil Nas X arriving in a hot pink, gold studded, Versace harness suit, Billy Porter in a fringe covered gorgeous blue Baja East set, and Tyler, the Creator in a custom Golf Le Fleur bell boy inspired suit. All three of these innovative looks were loved on social media.
Shaun Ross
The multitalented artist appeared on the red carpet in head-to-toe pearls with an outfit by Amy Bond. The look took a turn from the colorful menswear that we saw on the red carpet but went with another trend: all white, as seen on Lizzo and Gwen Stefani.
Billie Eilish
Prior to taking home five Grammys, four of which were in the four main categories, the eighteen-year-old “Bad Guy” singer walked the red carpet wearing custom crystal-embroidered Gucci. The look was a more elegant spin on her day-to-day “quarterback” style, as Tyler, the Creator described it.
