On Sunday night award season drew to a close with one of the most anticipated fashion events of the year. The 92nd Oscars had attendees in haute couture, the women embracing bold choices, and the men sticking to black tuxes, for the most part.
Crystal Embellishments
On the red carpet, we spotted a major trend in women’s fashion, that being crystal embellishments. Pictured here are Scarlett Johansson in a silver Oscar de la Renta mermaid, strapless gown and Brie Larson in a mauve Celine gown and cape and Bulgari jewelry. Finally, we have Janelle Monáe in this stunning Ralph Lauren gown. Monáe’s look was a fan favorite on social media and I understand why. This look sparkles in the light and appears to reflect a rainbow. In addition to the shimmery embellishments, the gown’s silhouette adds an element of extravagance, due to its size. Other stars who partook in this trend are Rita Wilson Sandra Oh, and Cynthia Erivo.
Florence Pugh in Monochrome
Florence Pugh is not only known for her roles in “Midsommar” and “Little Women”, but for her sense of style as well. If you haven’t already make sure to check out our blog post about her fashion sense. She did not disappoint with this monochromatic look. Entirely in turquoise, Pugh wore a Louis Vuitton gown with matching strappy heels. The tiered gown was completed with a matching turquoise belt and a silver choker.
Natalie Portman’s Tribute
In this black and gold Dior Haute Couture gown and cape Natalie Portman honored the snubbed female directors that were not nominated that night. Among the female directors that Portman honored were Lorene Scafaria, who directed “Hustlers”, Lulu Wang, “The Farewell” and, Greta Gerwig “Little Women”.
Billie Eilish’s Unique Style Strikes Again
In this channel set, Eilish stayed true to her personal style of baggy clothes yet again. Her unique fashion sense continues to catch the public’s eye. Although similar in fit to her Grammy look, Eilish wears all white with a few black accents here. This color pallet is rare for Eilish, who prefers to wear neon colors.
Timothée Chalamet’s Unexpected Look
In a Prada luxury tracksuit and Cartier jewelry, Chalamet’s look was met with a lot of criticism. Because he did not stick to the Academy Awards’ dress code, there has been a lot of talk about what inspired him to go with this look, although it is unique compared to most of the menswear that was worn that night.
Billy Porter Stole the Show
Billy Porter had the boldest look out of the men, by far. In Giles Deacon Couture and Swarovski jewelry, his gold and orange look stole the show. While most of the men wore black suits, Porter went with a more extravagant approach, which is something he’s known for.
