While Sunday night marked another Super Bowl in the books, it also marked another amazing halftime show. For those (like myself) who are not the biggest football fans, the half-time show is the main event. The show is notorious for hosting some of the biggest stars performing their hits in extravagant ways while wearing outfits that make a statement.
This year Jennifer Lopez and Shakira made history by being the first Latina duo to run the show, and let me just say they did not disappoint. Between their setlist, dancing, and wardrobe choices they left everyone in awe.
Shakira opened her performance with her hit “She Wolf” and immediately all of us watching knew the whole performance was going to be epic. She captivated the crowd with her insane dance moves and musical abilities like playing the electric guitar during one part. On top of all of that Shakira wore a sparkly, red, two-piece set with lots of fringe and a pair of matching knee-high boots to really make her presence pop.
J Lo stepped out on stage in a chic, black, studded jumpsuit while singing one of her hit songs “Jenny from the Block.” Just like Shakira, Lopez showcased her iconic dance moves during her set. J Lo then did a quick turn around and revealed a daring sheer, glitter bodysuit under her black jumpsuit. Lopez sang some more of her hits like “On the Floor.” She finished her solo part of the performance with none other than her 11 year-old daughter, Emme singing Bruce Springsteen's “Born in the USA.”
They ended the show together singing J Lo’s “Let’s Get Loud” and Shakira’s “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).” Immediately afterward, A-list celebs went to twitter to praise the two artists for their outstanding performance.
The duo wanted their show to celebrate their culture and the diversity our country has to offer. If their performance had to be summed up in two words I would have to say it was both empowering and entertaining.
